Primers I've been using

A good primer is one of those products that I just love having in my makeup bag and with so many around it's hard to know which one to choose. Some primers claim to hide your pores, some give you a matte finish or a lovely super glow and some actually give your makeup a little extra staying power.
Using a primer was something that I never really used to bother about until recently, now that I do I've noticed a big difference with how my makeup looks and lasts.
There are two main primers I've been testing out recently and I'm sure, like me, you've probably seen both of these talked about a lot. So I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Here's how I got on.

Hylamide HA Blur Prismatic Blurring Surface Hydrator

I was really excited to try this primer and oh wow, am I glad I did! It's probably the best primer I have ever tried. The beauty of this one is that it uses something different called Hyaluronic Acid powder base which makes it compatible with all skin types and promises to blur away any imperfections and smoothe out the skin. You can wear it under or over foundation or even mix it in with liquid foundation. Well, honestly as soon as I applied it I could really see a big difference in my skins appearance. It's so hydrating and smoothing but without being too greasy which my skin absolutely loved and it really helped to minimise any large pores and fine lines. My skin felt noticeably softer and had a lovely plump, radient look to it compared to other primers I've used. It's just wonderful to wear even on it's own if I wanted to.
It's quite a thick, creamy consistency but I only needed a tiny amount to cover my whole face and the smell isn't too overpowering either, just a light cosmetic fragrance. It melted right into my skin really quickly and hid a lot of my blemishes. I found it made my foundation so much easier to blend in and the coverage look a lot better especially over the drier areas of my skin. Also an added bonus, I love that my foundation lasted well too! So it really does just about everything I could want from a primer, it's a great base for my makeup but does wonders for my skin and it's appearance too.

Nivea For Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Really?? But this is for men, I hear you say. Well that's what I thought until I saw all over the blogging world that people were using this as a primer. It's something my other half has used for a long time so of course I only had to sneak into the bathroom cabinet and pinch some of his to give it a try. The balm is a fairly thin consistency, a little really does go a long way, and it did leave my skin a bit sticky when I first applied it. I also had a masculine smell for a while which seemed a slightly odd but putting that to one side I was interested to see how it shaped up as a primer. Well, it didn't conceal my pores, which is something I like from a primer, but I found it did give my skin an even, matt finish without being too drying and there was almost a tiny hint of a glow, which would be perfect in the hot weather when I don't really want to be wearing anything too heavy or greasy. However, my makeup didn't last as long as with some of my other primers so it'll be great for a short trip out on a warm day, but anything else and I'd be using something different to give my base the staying power so that I wouldn't have to keep doing touch ups to my makeup during the day. Sadly this isn't my favourite choice of primers.

Thanks for reading. What primers have you been using lately? Have you got a favourite one?
