My Haircare Essentials

I've been having my hair colour treated and using heated appliances for years and it's really taken it's toll on the condition of my hair. Don't get me wrong, I love my long hair and I will never have it cut short but it can be a real pain to maintain sometimes. I did have it cut to about shoulder length once and I really regretted it afterwards, then spent months moaning about it until my hair finally grew back to a length that made me feel like me again. My natural hair colour is a kind of strawberry blonde, so I'm not really very adventurous when it comes to dying it different colours though, I've just gone a lot blonder. The only time I have ever seen myself with dark hair was when I wore a black wig for a Halloween party I went to and I'd dressed up as a witch, it seemed so weird, but I had such a brilliant night that it was worth it!
I thought it was about time I did a whole post that was purely about my haircare routine and for those of you with dry, colour treated hair, this may be of some help. All of these products are ones that I've found to work well on my hair type and keep it in good condition. Some of them are old favourites, a couple are new discoveries but these are the hair products that I'm currently reaching for every week.

LOreal Elvive Extraordinary Oils Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner
I usually like to wash my hair while I'm in the shower in the morning before I start the day. No matter what other shampoos or conditioners I try, somehow I end up going back to these two old faithfuls. The shampoo leaves my hair feeling really clean and the conditioner leaves my hair super soft and tangle free. I've got quite a lot of hair but I find I don't need to use a lot of these products and they don't weigh my hair down.
Then after my shower I'll just gently towel dry my hair to soak up any moisture, being careful not to rough up the edges. I like to leave my hair to dry naturally as often as I can to give it a break from any kind of styling.

L'Oreal Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Masque Balm
Every so often I like to use an intensive hair mask when I feel my hair needs a little extra love and attention, mainly through the ends of my hair. After first trying this mask about 6 months ago, I was so impressed with how well it sorted out my dry hair that it quickly replaced another brand I was using. I had no more breakage and my hair felt much more healthy and stronger. It says to leave on 2 to 3 minutes but I usually leave it on for about 5 minutes. It really nourishes and hydrates my hair and I don't need to use a lot to get the maximum effect.

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Perfector Oil
Even with the best will in the world there are days when my hair needs an extra helping hand to stop it looking all frizzy. I've lost count of how many bottles of this stuff I've bought and I just keep going back for more, so it really is my haircare saviour. When my hair is still damp I'll put a small amount of the oil onto palms of my hands and smooth it through the lengths of my hair before styling. It leaves my hair looking really glossy and shiny without looking all greasy and it really does tame any flyaway hairs. I'll sometimes use a very small amount onto dry hair in between washes just to smooth down any stray hairs. Plus it smells absolutely gorgeous too!

Toni Guy Prep Heat Protection Mist
I am one of those bad girls who for years just run my straighteners through my hair without even thinking about putting a spray on first. Yes, I know, you can tell me off! I've recently found this Heat Protection spray which is just amazing and it's the best one I've found so far. I'll spritz it evenly over dry hair before using my straighteners and it not only helps to protect my hair but leaves my hairstyle looking super sleek and holds the style in place all day.

Toni & Guy Glamour Volume Plumping Whip
It was actually the name of this product that caught my eye whilst I was looking for something else and anything that stops my hair looking as flat as a pancake is definitely worth a try. I've been using this if i'm going for a style with a bit more volume and I'll work a tiny amount into the roots of my hair when it's still damp, then style my hair using my hairdryer and a round brush to create the look I'm going for. It really does give my style a little extra body which lasts all day without it feeling sticky. It's quiet a thick consistency and the first time I used it I felt as though I was putting a night cream on my hair,  I soon learnt that I really did only need to use a small amount!

L'Oreal Studio Line Boost and Gloss Volume Mousse
This has been my absolute favourite mouse to use for adding volume to my hairstyle, again I use it on damp hair before styling it with the hairdryer and either using my fingers or a brush to create a style with loads of body and bounce. It didn't leave my hair feeling heavy or sticky and it did give a little extra shine to it as well. I find a moose is easier to use if I just want to rough dry my hair before putting rollers in too. I'm really pleased that I bought a few bottles of this when they were on offer as I think this line has actually been discontinued, I can only find a few left in stores now but I've linked a similar one HERE.

Thanks for reading. Can you recommend a styling mouse or spray for me to try?
