The Autumn Outfit with Sammydress*

I always find Autumn to be quite a tricky season to style an outfit as you're never sure what the weather's going to be like when you leave the house in the morning, freezing temperatures and drizzly rain one minute or a blistering heatwave the next.
I've been wanting to update my wardrobe for a while now after having a huge clear out of items that I no longer wear. I needed to add a few key pieces in Autumnal colours that would see me through the next few months. And I've found just the most perfect dress!

My Must Have Accessories For Autumn

Hurray, my first fashion post for the new season! As the days get colder and the nights get darker earlier, I thought I'd dig out a few favourite autumn accessories of mine that will see me right through the next few months. I've had a huge clear out in my wardrobe lately but there are some classic items that I just can't part with and will look perfect with any new clothing I get this year.
As I mentioned in my Autumn post, I am really getting excited about the season this year and that goes for clothing and accessories too.

So let's see what my must have accessories for Autumn are.

How I Style A Black Lace Dress

I realise that I'm probably getting a bit late with a Summer fashion post as everyone's more than likely thinking about getting their Autumn coats! But do you know what? It's not very often that I find a spaghetti strap dress that I not only love, but also feel confident enough to wear and have my photo taken wearing it.
The little black dress has been a wardrobe staple for years and believe me, I've had my fair share of them. I think it's one of the easiest pieces to style, whatever the season or occasion. It's the first thing I grab for a last minute party invite, chuck on a statement necklace and a pair of heels and I'm good to go!
But black lace in Summer? That's a different story.

What I Wore to The Swiss Gardens

It was a gorgeous sunny June day and I'd got all excited that the sun was out which meant I could finally wear a summer's outfit. So I went riffling through my wardrobe and found just what I was looking for.
I was going for a day out at The Swiss Gardens in Bedfordshire and I just knew this was also going to make the perfect setting for taking a few photos for my next outfit post.

Pretty Prints

I don't think my style has changed too much over the years, I'll always be a girly girl. I've got a bit more adventurous as I've got older though and bought things that I wouldn't have a few years ago.
However each year I love to get out the floaty summer dresses, they're just so comfortable to wear, and each year I'll buy another one to add to my wardrobe. I'm really loving this pretty floral midi dress right now with the combination of blue and green in the print. I'm sure if everyone was wearing zebra print I'd still be wearing florals!

The Weekend Outfit

You may have seen in a previous blog post that I enjoy taking a stroll in the countryside as often as I can, and that's exactly what I did over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We went to Hitchwood in Hertfordshire and the bluebells were out in full colour. It was so peaceful and great to get out in the fresh air just listening to the sounds of nature. The day wasn't quite warm enough for me to go bare legged as there was still a spring chill in the air and my feet were going nowhere near a pair of open toe shoes until I'd had a pedicure, or at least stuck some nail varnish on my toes!
I fished out my denim knee length skirt as I thought this would make a nice change to wearing jeans for a casual weekend outfit.

Blue Floral Skirt

You probably already know that I wear a lot of neutral colours. My wardrobe is full of blacks, creams, beiges, browns and greys, so occasionally I love to introduce some colour to make it look a bit fresher for whatever season we're in. Sometimes I can be a bit of an impulse shopper and go right ahead and buy something without thinking what do I already have that it will go with, but when I came across this beautiful blue floral skirt I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I just had to have it. As I held it in my hand I could visualise outfits I'd be able to style using the skirt and items that I already owned. The skirt is really versatile and would be great for any occasion.

Denim Flares

Over the last few weeks I've been packing up my winter clothes, sorting through anything that I can still use while we're mid season and to make room for a few cheeky purchases I've made. I'm really into denim at the moment especially with so many great pieces in the shops to choose from and a pair of jeans will always be on my list of wardrobe staples. I would normally go for a pair of stretch skinny jeans but I came across these ones which are slightly flared and when I tried them on I absolutely loved them.

1970s Inspired Outfit

1970s fever is hitting fashion again and will be staying well into Autumn Winter 2016. The Seventies gave us Hippie Chic, Glam Rock and even Punk and eventually becoming an iconic decade for fashion. Charlie's Angels, big lapels, flares and the "Farrah" flick, not forgetting corduroy, suede, denim and velvet were all big in the Seventies. People were inspired by what they saw in Jackie magazine or on Top of The Pops, then shopped at Camden Market to buy their own version or made it themselves at home whilst listening to vinyl on their record players. Designers are still inspired by some of the original icons of the time, Stevie Nicks, Farrah Fawcett and Bianca Jagger to name a few.
Now I love wearing vintage inspired outfits and I'll try not to wear all the pieces at once as I don't want to look like a reject from Pans People!

Everyday Stripes

I actually surprised myself the other day by venturing out of the house in another print other than floral. I've worn stripes before but I usually style a casual striped T-shirt with jeans but on this occasion I wanted to feel a little more pulled together.

Mad for Monochrome

It's all very nice to have bold colours and pastels for Spring, but there are just some days I don't want to worry about what colours and patterns match when I'm putting together my outfit.
Monochrome is a trend that does keep popping up but I think its such a classic look that it's great to wear any time of the year. Anything with a black and white colour palette will simplify your look whilst adding a tough of sophistication. Florals, stripes, polka dots and graphic prints all work with Monochrome.

Keeping Neutral

With Spring, hopefully, just around the corner I added a few new pieces to my wardrobe that could be worn now but that can see me through to the new season.

Classic Camel

I think I have a slight addiction to coats this year, especially with so many styles to choose from, but my 3 favourite coats to have in my wardrobe are a parker, a trench and a classic camel coat.

BOHO

I love hunting down bargains and finding items that will get worn time after time, no matter what the season. I had been lucky enough to receive some high street vouchers for my birthday so during a shopping trip I picked up a few new items including this beautiful red floral dress from Monsoon.
It's made of soft jersey material with a deep V neckline and a tie waist so it gives a very flattering shape. I love dresses like these as they are so versatile and can be worn all year round with boots and a coat during the colder months or a pair of open toe flats and your favourite tote bag in the warmer months.

GREY ALL THE WAY

With the cold weather well and truly upon us, it's time to wrap up warm in those lovely winter coats that you've had in the wardrobe while it's been so unseasonably mild.
