Things I Do To Relax

Sometimes i get so wrapped up in everyday life that I forget what's important and what isn't. Life can become so stressful with all those everyday tasks that need to get done and I end up feeling so overwhelmed with it all and struggle to keep up.
I try not to dwell on things too much and remember that my personal well-being needs to come first. So as often as I can I spend a few minutes or a few hours having some "me time" to unwind and relax.
Here are my top 10 favourite things to help me relax.

10 Things I Do To Relax

1. Colouring Books
I got my first one about 6 months ago and then another one for Christmas. These ones have space for you to do your own drawing as well as the colouring in sections so they are great for being as creative as I want yet still being able to switch off and while away the hours in my own little world.

2. Enjoy a cup of Tea
I love a cup of coffee first thing in the morning but I also enjoy a good cup of Yorkshire tea in the afternoon. I love lemon and ginger tea if I feel I need something refreshing. However on those times when I just want to relax for 10 minutes I'll light a candle, get out my favourite tea cup and enjoy a nice soothing herbal tea while reading my favourite book or looking through a magazine. My favourite at the moment is Clipper Sleep Easy Tea with cinnamon and chamomile.

3. Listen to Music
I have quite a vast music collection ranging from classical to Pop to Rock. Sometimes I'll put something upbeat on to dance and sing along to which is great fun, while other times I'll just want to listen to something gentle and hopefully fall asleep.

4. Bake A Cake
Up until a few years ago I had never baked a cake. Then a friend of mine showed me how simple it was and now I really enjoy making cakes for my friends and family. My hubby's favourite cake is a Victoria Sponge so I make this one a lot. It's a great way to de-stress as I can take out my temper when mixing the cake!

5. Meet Up With Friends and Family
I try to meet up with my friends as often as I can. I really enjoy spending time with them over a drink or lunch date. Sometimes all I need is to spend some time with the people I love and have a good chat or a laugh and I feel a whole lot better. My hubby is great at making me laugh when I'm feeling down or I feel like I'm in the middle of a crisis. We've been together long enough now that he also knows when to give me a hug or just run for cover!

6. Paint My Nails
I have nail polishes in every colour of the rainbow and it can be really therapeutic to sort them all out and paint my nails, especially if I do this with a friend and play some of my favourite music too.

7. A Walk In The Woods
My hubby and I love going on long walks together to get away from the hustle and bustle of town life. I'm really lucky to have so many lovely parks and woodlands near where I live. It's great to get out in the fresh air and taking in the smells and sounds of nature. One of my favourites in the Spring is a Bluebell Wood not far from us. The bluebells give the woods such a beautiful carpet of blue. Which ever place we choose to go its just lovely to go for a long walk in such peaceful surroundings and it's also great for doing some of my photography too.

8.Pilates
I try to get along to a Pilates class once a week. Not only is it relaxing, it's also great for keeping fit. It's also a great way for me to socialise afterwards for a coffee or a lunch date with the people I have got to know through going to the classes.

9. Watch A Film
I close the curtains, open the wine, or make a hot chocolate depending on how I'm feeling, and snuggle up on the sofa under a thick throw to watch one of my favourite films. It can be anything from a romantic comedy to a Disney film. I also love TV box sets and watch a few episodes back to back. Some of my favourites are Friends, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders. I don't have one particular genre of film or TV show that I stick to. If I like the look of it I'll watch it, if I don't I won't.

10. A Mini Home Facial
I lock myself in the bathroom, light a few relaxing smelling candles and either pop on a face mask while soaking in the bath with a few drops of my favourite bath oil or I'll do a full home facial. My favourites have to be Sanctuary or Champneys for a bit of a pamper session.

Thank you for reading my post and I hope you enjoyed finding out what I do to realx.
What sort of things do you do to relax? Do you spend one day a week where you completely switch off and de-stress?

I've also written a post about what skincare I use every morning which you can read about HERE
